XS3 FAQ
The TBM XS3 calipers are built for performance street cars, pro-touring builds, and street/strip vehicles. They offer a perfect balance between responsive braking performance and refined driveability, making them ideal for both daily use and spirited weekend driving.
While not intended as a dedicated race caliper, the XS3 draws heavily from TBM’s motorsport heritage. It’s an excellent choice for aggressive street driving, autocross, and occasional dragstrip passes, offering dependable performance and thermal control for mixed-use applications.
The XS3 caliper is precision-machined from two halves of billet 6061 aluminum. This two-piece construction allows for greater design flexibility while maintaining strength and low weight.
- Pad volume and compound tailored for quiet, low-dust operation with long life
- A more refined pedal feel, suited to real-world driving conditions
The XS3 uses a TBM-specific pad shape available in multiple compounds suited for street and light performance use. These pads are designed to deliver low noise, minimal dust, and consistent braking feel, with options depending on driving style and environment.
The XS3 is designed to pair specifically with 12.19" vented rotors, which provide an excellent balance of cooling, braking torque, and wheel clearance. The vented design improves heat dissipation, making it ideal for street and street/strip applications.
The XS3 uses a lug-mount configuration and is installed using application-specific brackets provided in most TBM or Motion Raceworks brake kits. Always follow TBM’s recommended torque specs and hardware instructions during installation.
Absolutely. The XS3 is designed with street-friendly maintenance in mind and includes:
- A single bleeder screw for efficient brake bleeding
- Top-loading pads for quick pad changes without removing the caliper
- Sealed pistons to keep dirt and moisture out, reducing long-term wear
Most vehicles will not require a master cylinder upgrade when the XS3 is installed as part of a complete brake system. However, depending on your brake setup and desired pedal feel, a proportioning valve may be used to fine-tune front/rear bias.
The XS3 is compact by performance standards but may require 15" wheels or larger, depending on rotor and bracket combination. Use TBM’s fitment templates or consult Motion Raceworks for wheel clearance guidance.
Replacement pads, bleeders, seal kits, and related components are available directly through Motion Raceworks or TBM Brakes. Pad compound recommendations are also available based on your driving habits and vehicle use.
